Abstract

EFFECT OF ORAL & LOCAL AYURVED MEDICINES IN NON- HEALING DIABETIC WOUND/ULCER – A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Diabetic wound is a complex and serious complication of diabetes with many negative outcomes which require medical treatment. Diabetic patient have foot problem & they are at risk of infection & ulceration. Once ulceration occurs the chances of healing are poor. It is stated in Charak Samhita that if Madhumeha not treated properly it may lead to Prameha Pitika. Prameha Pitika may develop diabetic wound. Such types of wounds are stated as Sharir Vrana (Nijvrana) by Shushruta Acharya & these wound should be treated with Vranashodhan & Ropan treatment. A clinical case of 50 years old male patient presented with non healing diabetic wound at right foot planter aspect at base of great toe. He was taking treatment since six months for non-healing diabetic wound but there was slow progressive worsening. Patient was known case of Diabetes Mellitus with Hypertension since ten years on medication. The wound dressing with Vranashodhan Tail & Jatyadi Tail were carried out daily at the same time oral Ayurvedic medications such as Anantadi Kwatha, Triphala Guggula & Kaishor Guggula. A significant result was observed in non-healing diabetic wound. The wound healed completely in 70 days with depressed scar. No recurrence observed. Local use of Vranashodhan Tail, Jatyadi Tail & oral medicines Anantadi Kwath, Triphala Guggula, Kaishor Guggula found effective in present case. These Ayurvedic medicines have showed good healing in diabetic wound.
