ABSTRACT
Chinese star anise (Illiciumverum Hook) is an important herb in traditional Chinese medicine as well as traditional Asian medicine. Star anise is one of the many species containing bioactive compounds and possess the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Star anise powder is immersed in methanol and then placed in a rotary shaker, further it is filtered and supernatant was collected and further dried at 45oc. The antibacterial activity was observed due to presence of anethole and was observed due to presence of anethole was confirmed by using minimum inhibitory concentrationmethod. The bacterial pathogens used were:- Gram positive- staphylococcus Aureus Gram negative- Escherichia Coil The result was found that the extract of Star Anise
fruit have potency to inhibit the growth of S. aureus and E. coli. Finally it was concluded that the fruit Illicium verum as the good source of Antibacterial agent for Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
