SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF AZOPOLYMERS FOR COLON TARGETED DRUG DELIVERY

ABSTRACT

Day by day there is newer development in the field of colon targeting drug delivery. Colon targeting drug delivery system has not only gained importance in the treatment of various local diseases associated with the colon such as ulcerative colitis, Crohns diseases, amebiosis, colonic cancer but also for the systemic delivery of proteins, peptides, anti-histaminic drugs, anti-diabetic drugs and also anti-hypertensive drugs. New methods and techniques were developed to overcome the previous methods limitations. This article discusses in brief the introduction to colon targeting, its need and various approaches for targeting drug to colon in effective way. eg.Azopolymeric prodrug approach.Synthesis of azopolymers (azo-azomatic and pH sensitive polymers) were carried out and evaluated by TLC,HPLC and Rf value is determined.
