Kalpana Taledi*, Pravesh Kumar, K. K. Sharma and Parul Sharma

ABSTRACT

Vishwachi is a type of VatajaNanatmajaVyadhi that affects the neck and upper extremities with signs and symptoms like Ruk, Stambha, Toda, Karmakshaya and Chestapaharana of Bahu. The prime dosha involved in pathophysiology of Shool is Vaat. The involvement of Vaat in clinical manifestation of Vishvachi is similar to that of cervical radiculopathy which is a degenerative condition of the cervical spine. Dhatukshaya can be considered as main factor leading to a condition like Vishwachi. Pain is the most complicated condition of everyone’s life. In this condition pain radiates in to the neck, shoulder, arm, forearm, & digits, characterised by pricking type of pain and numbness in upper limbs and its muscles typically precipitated by movement and may accompanied by focal tenderness and limitations of motion. Thus Abyanga, Swedana, Nasya and Niruha, Matrabasti, becomes the line of treatment of vishwachi. But being an Urdhwajatrugatavyadhi, Nasya karma has been mentioned as the prime line of treatment.

Keywords: vishvachi, cervical rediculopathy, Nasya, basti.
