Abstract

A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF UTTARABHAKTHIKA SNEHAPANA WITH MAHA KALYANAKA GRUTHA AND GUGGULU TIKTAKA GRUTHA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF APABAHUKA

ABSTRACT

A long healthy life is wish of every being since antiquity. Ayurveda is the science of life with the aim of attaining health and curing diseases of ill. Life without movement is the worst tragedy that can happen to any living organism. Shoulder joint has the greatest range of motion among all joints in the human body. The unique position of man as a master mechanic of the animal kingdom is because of skilled movements of his hands and when this shoulder joints get obstructed, we call it as Apabahuka. This makes the person unable for self-caring and if the person tries to do the work with affected limb the pain precipitates and produces discomfort to the patient. Ayurveda has a great role to manage this disease successfully. Uttarabhakthika snehapana is one among the treatments told by Acharyas for the management of this disease. Here an effort is made to assess the efficacy of Uttarabhaktika Snehapana in the management of Apabahuka. In the present study by considering the Inclusion and Exclusion criteria, 40 patients of Apabahuka were randomly recruited to 2 equal groups. Group A and Group B received Uttarabhakthika snehapana with Mahakalyanaka grutha and Guggulu tiktaka grutha for 7 consecutive days respectively. Statistical analysis revealed that both the interventions were effective in reducing all the signs and symptoms of Apabahuka, however in parameters like degree of Abduction, extension and internal rotation, Group A patients showed better response than Group B patients.
