Abstract

AN AYURVEDIC PROTOCOL TO MANAGE MACULAR OEDEMA DETECTED IN COVID -19 SURVIVED PATIENT - SINGLE CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Introduction: WHO declared Covid -19 as pandemic, since the novel coronavirus continues to rapidly spread globally. The medical experts worldwide continuously working to update the symptoms, signs, virulence, complication etc happening to human due to SARS- CoV2 Virus. It is yet to be findout the influence of Corona Virus in deteriorating the structure and functions of different body systems including ocular system. As the Virus shows its virulence in whole body, there might be inflammatory changes in retinal system also. Objectives: The objective of this study is to elicit a treatment protocol to treat macular odema occurring as a complication in immune compromise conditions like COVID – 19. Methodology: 54 year old male patient who was tested COVID positive 2 months back, soon started having symptoms like blurring of vision etc, and diagnosed as Macular oedema 15 days after got tested negative. The patient got administered with Sthanika Chikitsa, Vyadhi Prathyanika chikitsa, Vyadhi kshamatwa chikitsa and Rasayana chikitsa. Results: The Macular oedema got regressed after 15 days of treatments and improved the general health condition also. Conclusion: It is yet to be find out the virulence of corona etc Virus in Crossing blood retinal barrier. But as this infective agent is having impact on whole body it will cause inflammatory response to ocular tissues also. But it can be well managed with Ayurvedic medicines which is Sodhahara, Rakthashodhaka and Vyadhikshamatwa vardhaka which inturn can give improvement in general health of the COVID -19 survived patient.
