ABSTRACT

Rasashastra is a specialized branch of Ayurveda which mainly deals with the pharmaceutical preparations. Jalodarari rasa, a herbo-mineral (Plant and Mineral) preparation of Rasashastra is used by our Acharyas in different types of Udara rogas. It is mainly used for the Jjalodara roga, which is difficult to treat according to different Acharya. It is purgative formulation and by purgation it decreases the water level in Udara. The present study was conducted to generate a fingerprint for raw Jayapala and Jalodarari rasa that can be practiced in Ayurvedic pharmaceutical industries. Raw Jayapala was purified by Godugdha in dolayantra, which have been followed for Shodhana, Marana of Tamra and preparation of Tamra bhasma. Tamra bhasma was prepared as per classical text mentioned since many centuries. After obtaining Suddha Jayapala and Tamra bhasma it was added with Pippali,Maricha, and Haridra powder triturated with Snuhi kshira. Then all the ingredients were triturated properly to prepare Jalodarari rasa by following SOP (Standard Operative Procedure) of Vati kalpana in Kharaliya method of preparation. After preparing Jalodarari rasa complied with the features of herbo-mineral Vati kalpana, both raw Jayapala and Jalodarari rasa were analyzed by using X-Ray Fluorescence (X-RF) analysis. It was revealed that Raw Jayapala contains K, S, Fe, Mg, Mn, Na, Cu, Zn, Al, Ca etc. and Jalodarari rasa contains K,S, Fe, Mg, Mn, Na, Cu, Zn, Al, Ca etc. HPTLC (High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography) studies showed that Strong spots identified on 254nm and 366nm confirm presence of terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids etc.

Keywords: Jalodarari rasa, HPTLC, X-RF.
