ABSTRACT

Pratishyaya is a condition of continous nasal discharge, Vata pradhana disease and accumulation of Doshas in uttamanga. The clinical features of Vataja Pratishyaya as explained in Ayurvedic texts have the relevance with Allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis is an IgE mediated immunologic response of nasal mucosa to airborne allergen and is characterized by watery nasal discharge, nasal obstruction, sneezing and itching in the nose. So the present study was carried out to standardize the finished product Vyaghri Haritaki Avleha and Vyaghri taila to confirm its identity, purity and quality.Physicochemical analysis of Vyaghri Haritaki Avleha shows loss on drying 29.26%, total solid 70.74%, total ash 03.34%, acid insoluble ash 0.83%, water soluble extractive 62.96% and pH 4.38, Thin layer chromatography showed 6, 8 spots. Physicochemical analysis of Vyaghri taila shows loss on drying 0.10%, R.I. 1.464, Sp. Gravity 0.915. Thin layer chromatography showed 12 spots. This showed the presence of certain definite constituents in the Vyaghri Haritaki Avleha and Vyaghri taila and is helpful for easy separation of these constituents.

Keywords: Pratishyaya, Allergic rhinitis, Vyaghri haritaki avleha, Thin layer chromatography.
