Abstract

PAKSHAGHAT AND IT’S MANAGEMENT THROUGH PANCHKARMA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO HEMIPLEGIA - A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT

The term Pakshaghat is the combination of two words paksha and ghata. Where paksha denotes either half of the body and aghat denotes paralysis. That can be correlated with hemiplegia. Strokes are most common cause of hemiplegia. Of patient presenting with a stroke, 85% will have sustained a cerebral infarction due to inadequate blood flow to part of brain which is mostly due to thromboembollic disease secondary to atherosclerosis in the major cranial artery. The present article deals with a diagnosed case of hemiplegia. A 55 years old male patient with K/C/O of Hypertension came to opd with complaints of weakness of right lower limb, Weakness of right upper limb and slurred speech since 2 months. The ayurvedic diagnosis of dakshina pakshaghat was made. Panchakarma therapy virechana, snehna, wedana and Brihan and yapan basti and vachadi ksheer dhoom were done along with internal ayurvedic medicine and physiotherapy. Patient was admitted in our institute for near about two and half months and showed significant improvement in gradation of power and gait. Aim of study was to evaluate the effect of ayurvedic treatment specially panchakarma in case of pakshaghat with special reference to the hemiplegia.
