Abstract

A CLINICAL STUDY OF PUNARNAVA (BOERHAAVIA DIFFUSA) SIDDHA TAILA NASYA IN GERIATRICS HAVING ANIDRA (INSOMNIA) - A PILOT STUDY

ABSTRACT

Anidra has been mentioned under the Vataja Nanatmaja Vikara where it is mainly caused by Vata Doṣha or due to Manastapa, Shosha or Abhighata. It is very common in older adults as there is more predominance of Vata Doṣha, presenting the symptoms-Angamarda (severe body pain), Shirogaurava (heaviness of the head), Jṛumbha (too much yawning), Jadyata (lassitude), Glani (exhaustion), Bhrama (giddiness), Apakti (indigestion), Tandra (drowsiness) and Vataja Rogas (diseases of Vataja Doṣa). It affects about 30% of the adult population. Snehan Nasya is the best remedy for better and permanent management of Anidra. Nasya by Snigdha and Madhur Dravya is described as treatment in Anidra. Punarnava having the properties of Madhur, Tikta, Kashay Rasa, Laghu, Rukṣa Guna, Ushna Veerya and Madhura Vipaka has been mentioned as a Nidrakar by Acharya Harita. Also it is Vayasthapan according to Acharya Charaka. Hence, the study is aimed to check the efficacy of Punarnava Siddha Snehan Nasya in geriatrics having Anidra (Insomnia). Objectives are to study the reduction in symptoms of Anidra by Nasya Karma. Materials used are - Nasya Drugs (Punarnava). Methodology—This is pilot of 09 number of patients having symptoms of Anidra. Observations- Data regarding age wise, Prakruti wise distribution of the patients, reduction in Symptoms of Anidra. Conclusion- Nasya Karma by Punarnava Siddha tail is effective in geriatrics having Anidra.
