Abstract

PHARMACEUTICAL STUDY OF PANCHAGAVYA GRITHA PREPARED WITH TWO DIFFERENT METHODS – CLASSICAL AND ANUKTHA METHOD

Dr. Prajna* and Dr. Sathyanarayan B.

ABSTRACT

Introduction - Panchagavya gritha[1] mainly indicated in Manasika Vyadhis like Unmada, Apasmara. Along with Manasika Vyadhi it is given in Jwara. Panchagavya Gritha is given as both Shamana and Shodhana drug. Before giving Shodaha Panchagavya Gritha is given as Snehapana and in other case it is given as shamana drug. Acharya charaka explained panchagavyagritha in Unmada Chikithsa where he says ratio of drugs to be taken is Samah that is equal. Acharya Vagbhata in Ashtanga Hrudaya[2] explains the same but he did not mention the ratio of drugs used. Sharangadhara[3] has given some important references as Anuktha mana in Sneha Kalpana and in Vaidhyaka Pribhasha Pradeepa[4] there is reference for Anuktha mana. Materials and method – Pancha Gavya is collected from healthy desi cow. Godadhi, Go Gritha is prepared in hygienic condition where as Goksheera, Gomaya rasa and Gomutra is collected freshly. Preparation of Panchagavya Gritha was done in two batches, classical samples named as PGG1 and Anuktha ratio named as PGG 2. Result – After the completion of proceduredifferent colour was observed in samples. PGG1A and C samples showed yellow gold rush colour and PGG1B sample showed yellow ochre shadow. PGG2A and C samples showed green emerald and PGG2 B sample showed green gold mine colour. Time for the preparation of PGG1 sample on an average was 4 hours 35 min and for PGG2 samples was 7 hour 35 min. discussion and conclusion – change in colour was observed it may be because of presence of biliverdin from Gomaya and slight oxidation of bilirubin from Gomutra. Because of less quantity of drugs PGG 1 sample consumed less where as PGG2 samples consumed more.

Keywords: Manasikavyadhi, Snehapana, Anuktha, Shamana.
