CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON ROLE OF VESSEL IN AYURVEDA PHARMACEUTICS

ABSTRACT

Medicine plays an important role in treatment. But the preparation of quality medicine involves a number of steps and processes. The raw drugs are transformed into a suitable dosage form which is therapeutically useful for human body. This transformation in ayurveda is termed as samskara. Whatever may be the samskara adopted, one common and important aspect for all is the use of vessel (patra). The patra is used in both ahara (food) and aushadha(medicine). In nirmana it is used for storing raw drugs, in steps of preparation and for storage of finished products. Further, its role in therapeutics is also mentioned in ayurvedic texts. Many different Patra are mentioned for various formulation. In this study, an attempt has been made to unravel the role of vessel in ayurvedic pharmaceutics with the help of different textual references.
