Abstract

THE EFFECT OF LINCOMYCIN GELFOAM ON SALIVARY TNF AND IL-6 DURING EXTRACTION OF LOWER THIRD MOLAR

Dhafar M. Abdul Fatah* and Maha T. Al-Saffar

ABSTRACT

Aim: this study aimed to demonstrate the effect of lincomycin gelfoam on salivary TNF-α and IL-6 during extraction of lower third molar to compare these effect before and after extraction, and to know the benefit of using Lincomycin gelfoamon during extraction of molar teeth. Material and Methods:Twenty three patients was involved in this study , patients were classified into group I (control group) group II (lincomycin gelfoam), saliva was taken from all patients by using salivette before extraction and seven days after extraction to measure the TNF-α and IL-6 by using (ELISA) kit. Results: there is significance in the level salivary interlenkin-6 and TNF-α before extraction and after one week in both groups (p<0.05), negative correlation will exist between salivary TNF-α and IL-6 in both groups, the reults also demonestrate that there is no signifficant difference of the level of TNF-α between two group (p=0.078), and asignificant difference in the level of IL-6 (p=0.018) between two groups. Conclusion: lincomycin gelfoam produce a significant effect on salivary TNF-α and IL-6 when compared its level in control and treatment group which may enhance healing of socket after extraction of lower third molar and decrease susbtibility of infection.

Keywords: lincomycin gelfoam, lower third molar extraction, salivary inflammatory biomarker.
