Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF THIRD DEGREE INTERNO-EXTERNAL HAEMORRHOIDS (ARSHA) WITH KSHARASUTRA LIGATION: A CASE REPORT

Dr. Lokendra Pahadiya*

ABSTRACT

Haemorrhoids (Arsha) are one of the most common ano-rectal diseases of human being. These are the dilated or engorged veins of the anal canal in the sub epithelial region formed by radicles of superior, middle and inferior rectal veins. Ksharasutra treatment is a classical method which is mentioned by Chakrapani (11th A.D.) in his Chakradatta in the context of Arshobhagandar Chikitsa. It is very safe and effective treatment method for piles with minimal damage to the tissues or cosmetic disfigurement as well as cost effective. In this study, a 23 year male patient was suffering from 3rd degree interno-external pile masses at 3, 7 and 11 o’clock position of anal canal. All pile masses were treated with Ksharasutra ligation (KSL) under Local anaesthesia. In post operative period Matra Basti of Yastimadhu Ghrita was given daily for soothing and to minimise the pain. Post operative assessment was done daily by recording the relief observed in signs and symptoms. The ligated pile masses were shed off by 8th-10th post operative day and resultant wounds were healed by 20th-22nd day uneventfully. There were some advantages observed in Ksharasutra ligation in management of 3rd degree piles which is shared in this case report.
