CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF PUNARNAVA (BOERHAAVIA DIFFUSA) SIDDHA TAILA NASYA IN GERIATRICS HAVING ANIDRA (INSOMNIA)

ABSTRACT

Anidra has been mentioned under the Vataja Nanatmaja Vikara where it is mainly caused by Vata Doṣa or due to Manastapa, Śosha or Abhigata. It is very common in older adults as there is more predominance of Vata Doṣa. It affects about 30％ of the adult population. Snehan or Brṃhana Nasya by Snigdha and Madhur Dravya is described as treatment in the management of Anidra. Punarnava having the properties of Madhur, Tikta, Kashay Rasa, Laghu, Rukṣa Guna, Usna Veerya and Madhura Vipaka has been mentioned as a Nidrakar by Acarya Harita. Also it is Vayasthapan according to Acarya Caraka. Hence, Punarnava is used for Snehan Nasya in geriatrics having Anidra (Insomnia).
