In current era, bad dietary habits, lifestyle and environment have led to various autoimmune disorders i.e. Amavisajanya Vikaara and Amavata is one among them. Constant use of incompatible food articles and strenuous exercise immediately after consumption of fatty food lead to indigestion. And it causes formation of Ama. Ama associated with aggravated Vata plays dominant role in the pathogenesis of Amavata. It is a chronic, degenerative disease of the connective tissue mainly involving the joints. The clinical features of Amavata such as pain, swelling and stiffness of joints, fever, and general debility are the features that closely mimics the rheumatological disorder called as rheumatoid arthritis. In Amavata, Mandagni plays an important role in the manifestation of the disease. Pain related to Amavata is so dreadful that it is compared with pain of scorpion bite. The classical treatment of Amavata is Langhana, Swedana, Deepana, Amapachana, Shodhana, Shamana, Basti Chikitsa etc. Acharya Chakradatta had indicated Vaitarana Basti in Amavata. Vaitarana Basti proves an effective treatment in Amavata and decreases symptoms such as stiffness, swelling, and tenderness in small and big joints. Various drug trials were already carried out on Amavata, yet there is a lacuna in the management of Amavata. Hence, in the present clinical study, 15 patients were selected to evaluate the efficacy of Vaitarana Basti.
