Abstract

UTILIZATION OF ANTIMICROBIALS BY GYNAECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS DEPARTMENT OF CRIMSON HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The main aim of the study was to determine utilization of anti-microbial by Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of Crimson Hospital. Methodoloyg: The study was prospective study conducted for six months from July to December in Crimson Hospital, Manigram, Rupandehi. The patterns of utilization were recorded from the case records of patients of gynecology and obstetrics department. Data was analysed to find out the patterns of disease condition and utilization of antimicrobial agents (AMA) using WHO indicators. Result: A total of 170 patients were included. Women of age group 27–37 years have most infection. Total 786 drugs were prescribed in 170 prescription and 317 were AMA. The mean number of drugs per prescription was 4.56. Hindu women are most infected with gynaecological infection (85.88%). Occupation wise distribution of infection among patients shows that housewives were mostly infected. Married women are most affected with gynaecology and obstetrics disease. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is most common infection followed by urinary tract infection (UTI) among women. Clotrimazole (21.45%) was prescribed most followed by ornidazole (18.61%). Nitroimidazoles is prescribed most followed by azole derivatives. Conclusion: The study concluded that AMA are mostly prescribed drugs for gynaecology and obstetrics patients.
