ABSTRACT

Introduction:- Hyperlipidemia is the term used to denote raised serum levels of cholesterol or triglycerides or both. Though, there is no precise terminology for hyperlipidemia mentioned in the Ayurvedic classics, on the basis of its clinical features it can be co-related with Raktagata Sneha Vriddhi. Materials and methods:- A clinical study on 30 patients with Hyperlipidemia i.e. 10 patients in each group (Group A, Group B and Group C) were registered from OPD and IPD of Govt. Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Balangir. In Group A patients were given “Gomutra Haritaki” 2 tab (500 mg each) twice daily for 30 days after food. In Group B, patients were given “Gomutra Arka” 15 ml twice daily in empty stomach with equal amount of water for 30 days. In Group C, patients were given both “Gomutra Haritaki” and “Gomutra Arka” as per the above treatment schedules. The patients were followed up at 15th and 30th day from the day of initiation of trial up to 30 days in order to find the efficacy of both the trials by statistical paired‘t’ test. Observation and result:- There was 55.11% of improvement in signs and symptoms and 19.08% of improvement in the level of lipid profile (P<0.05, 0.10, 0.01) in the patients of Group A, 36.08% of improvement in signs and symptoms and 19.61% of improvement in the level of lipid profile (P<0.05, 0.10, 0.001) in the patients of Group B, 40.72% of improvement in signs and symptoms and 33.73% of improvement in the level of lipid profile (P<0.01, 0.001) in the patients of Group C. Conclusion:- The overall study revealed that the trial on “Gomutra Haritaki” along with “Gomutra Arka” (Group C) showed more efficacy than both the independent trial (Group A and Group B) and was more significant statistically.
