FAVIPIRAVIR: AN OLD ANTI-INFLUENZA DRUG COULD BE POTENTIAL NEW DRUG FOR COVID-19 TREATMENT

ABSTRACT The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2); COVID-19 occurred in Wuhan, China in December 2019, and the world health organization (WHO) declared a pandemic by mid-March. COVID-19 has 8,142,604 cases worldwide and 439,755 causalities (June 16, 2020)[1] and no approved medication for treatment. There are urgent needs for the development of new vaccines or drugs. With temporary approval (June 2020) of this pre-existing antiviral drug, Favipiravir in Russia for COVID-19, there is a hope that it could be applied in other countries as well. Keywords: .
