Abstract

SHORT REVIEW ON THE USE OF NANOTECHNOLOGY IN HERBAL MEDICINES

ABSTRACT

Herbal medicines are the oldest and still most widely used medicines used in the world today because of fewer side effects, cost effective, hormonal and metabolisation stabilisation effect, easier to obtain than prescription medicines. Herbal medicines are however have few problems like low solubility, bioavailability, toxicity in some cases, unstability. Nanotechnology helps in encountering the problems related to herbal medicines. However there are some toxicity related to nanoparticles like ROS generation and inflammation etc. This review focus on the types of nano-formulations used in herbal medicines, the applications of nano-technology in the formulation of nanomedicines with focus on the toxicity aspects of these formulation.
