Abstract

THE EFFICACY OF DYNAMIC NECK EXERCISE AND YOGA FOR CHRONIC NECK PAIN AMONG MIDDLE AGED POPULATION

ABSTRACT

Background: Neck pain is one of the major problems across the world and it is the most common musculoskeletal problem in the general population. It is an unpleasant sensory experience, which is manifested as fatigue, tension or pain that radiates to the shoulder, upper extremity or head. This may lead the individual to strain the neck normally, inability to move and avoid work. Objective: To compare the effect of dynamic neck exercise and Yoga on neck pain in middle age people. Materials and method: 60 participants who fulfilled inclusion criteria were taken. They were divided into 2 groups. Group A received dynamic neck resistance exercise along with yoga and Group B received only yoga exercise for 45 minutes for duration of 8 weeks. Results: The result of the study showed statistically significant improvement in the group A who underwent dynamic neck exercise along with yoga. Conclusion: The study concludes that the dynamic exercise along with yoga showed more effect in improving the neck muscle strength, range of motion and reducing neck pain.
