Abstract

REVIEW OF ACYCLOVIR ANALYSIS IN PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATIONS AND BIOLOGICAL MATRICES

ABSTRACT

Acyclovir is an active antiviral drug for treating Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) types 1 and 2. This drug is also useful in the treatment of infections due to varicella-zoster virus. Acyclovir preparations on the market are in the form of tablets, ointments, or intravenous injections. This review article discusses the acyclovir analysis method in pharmaceutical preparations and biological matrices. Several spectrophotometric, voltammetry, capillary electrophoresis analysis methods, and thin-layer chromatography are used to determine acyclovir in raw materials, and pharmaceutical preparations. Also, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrophotometry (MS) methods can be used to analyze acyclovir in various biological matrices (eg plasma, urine).
