AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF PSORIASIS (EKAKUSHTHA): A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
In Ayurveda, skin diseases are considered under the kushtha. Ekakushtha is a skin disorder in which there is absence of perspiration, seems to be scaling of fish, acquiring more surface area of skin.[1] It can be correlated with Psoriasis in modern science. Psoriasis has a worldwide prevalence of 2.8 %. Psoriasis is a long term dermatological disorder characterized by plaques of thickened, scaling skin.[2] Case presentation: A female patient of 30 years old complaining of discolored skin patches on the back with itching, dryness, exfoliation since 2 years. History revealed the consumption of improper food, unhygienic environment survival etc. All these factors caused the vitiation of Doshas and Dhatus. So to eliminate these toxins, Shodhan
therapy was given. Management and outcome: Shaman Chikitsa had been done for balancing of Doshas and Dhatus. Locally application was also given. After 1month she got significant relief in discoloration. This case study demonstrates that Ekakushtha can be successfully managed by Ayurvedic treatment.
