ABSTRACT
The aim of the present investigation was to evaluate the phytochemical constituents and antioxidant properties of the methanol extract of leaves of Bryophyllum Diagremontianum. The phytochemicals in the methanol extract of leaves of Bryophyllum Diagremontianum were determined qualitatively and quantitatively using standard methods and it showed the presence of various phytoconstituents such as phenols, amino acids, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids and quinones The antioxidant activities were carried out by DPPH, ABTS, OH free radical scavenging assay and Fe3+reducing power assay. The methanol extract of leaves of Bryophyllum Diagremontianum revealed good
radical scavenging activities(DPPH-89.73% at 100 μg/ml, ABTS –62.30% at 12 μg/ml). and Fe3+reducing power activities(0.429 at 60 μg/ml) which were found to increase with the increasing concentration of the extract. The presence of phenols and flavonoids in the methanol extract of leaves of Bryophyllum Diagremontianum were 342.64 mg/g and 124.4 mg/g, respectively. The present study revealed that the methanol extract of leaves of Bryophyllum Diagremontianum showed significant antioxidant activities.
