ABSTRACT
The coronaviruses were originally grouped into the family Coronaviridae on the basis of the crown or halo-like appearance given by the glycoprotein-studied envelope on electron microscopy. Coronaviruses are single-stranded RNA viruses, about 120 nanometers in diameter. They are susceptible to mutation and recombination and are therefore highly diversible. Two novel viruses Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) were implicated to be responsible for severe acute illness in recent times. The virus that
causes COVID-19 is thought to have originated in bats and then to humans. Unfortunately, no effective treatments against these viruses are available. There is a urgent need to develop new strategies to prevent or control coronavirus infections and to understand there biology, mutation and replication. This review article based on study of various coronavirus families.
