ABSTRACT
We have conducted the study of antioxidant and thrombolytic activities of the decoctions of Alternanthera sessilis (A. sessilis) leaves. The free radical scavenging (antioxidant) properties of the decoction of A. sessilis were evaluated on 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Ascorbic acid was used as standard in this experiment. We have also measured the total phenolic content from the hot water extract with the help of Gallic acid as standard. In this test we observed the total phenolic content as 11.23 0.47 mg of GAE/gm of dry powder and free radical scavenging activity with bearing the IC50 (mg/ml) of the decoction of A. sessilis as 0.003 0.001. With the help of
Streptokinase as positive control and normal saline (NS) and distilled water (DW) as negative control, we have carried out the experiment for evaluating thrombolytic activity. We got the thrombolytic activity from the decoction as (26.17 ± 0.42) % that is assumed to be remarkable in comparison with the controls like SK 30K: (76.11 ± 0.74) %, SK 15K: (57. 07 ± 0.63) %, NS: (9.31± 0.19) % and DW: (12.13 ± 0.39) %. The findings of the study indicate that in advance research with the decoction we may get bioactive antioxidant and thrombolytic molecules.
