ABSTRACT
Cellular damage caused by reactive oxygen species has been implicated in several diseases and hence antioxidants have significant importance in human health. Currently, the possible toxicity of synthetic antioxidants has been criticized. Plants are rich in wide variety of secondary metabolites which are strong antioxidants and showed various pharmacological activities. Therefore, purpose of the present study was to analyze the antioxidant potential of n-hexane extract of Clerodendrum inerme using 2, 2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, reducing power assay, superoxide radical scavenging, hydroxyl scavenging and nitric oxide scavenging assay. These antioxidant assays exposed that, the n-Hexane extract of Clerodendrum inerme posses’ comparable good antioxidant activities when compared with standard drug. Based on the results it can be concluded that, the n-Hexane extract of Clerodendrum inerme contains natural source of antioxidants. In future, it can be used as a bioactive source of natural antioxidants and are potential natural resources for pharmacology of functional foods.
