Abstract

HISTOPATHOLOGICAL ALTERATIONS IN RAT LIVER UNDER STRESS OF COPPER SULPHATE AND POTASSIUM DICHROMATE

Pushpendra Tiwari, Prabhu Narain Saxena, Brijender Bhushan*

ABSTRACT

Trace heavy metals plays highly specific and important metabolic role in living organisms. On the other hand however, exposure to these heavy metals at comparatively greater levels has been strongly associated with non-target toxicity. It is instead very difficult to create at gap among their toxic and non-toxic levels. It is with the reason, hepatotoxic potential of two common and metabolically crucial heavy trace metals namely copper and chromium has been assessed in the albino rat. Assessment was based on the hepato-histopathological alterations if any in the liver of treated rats. Histological analysis shows that both these metals alter the normal architecture of rat liver considerably, chromium being more intense in bringing about these changes. This may be a consequence of formation of more toxic bio-transformed product than in case of chromium compared to copper.
