Abstract

USE OF COPAIFERA OFFICINALIS OLEORESIN ASSOCIATED WITH PHONOPHORESIS THERAPY FOR PLANTAR FASCIITIS

ABSTRACT

Copaifera officinalis oil is a herbal therapeutic oleoresin used in traditional therapeutic in the Brazilian Amazon region, with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Phonophoresis is the ultrasound therapeutic method used to introduce substances transdermally, due to mechanical effects, changing tissue permeability, easing the penetration of the drug through the skin. The objective of this research is to verify the efficacy of copaiba oil therapy associated with phonophoresis in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. Twenty patients with plantar fascia calcification (calcaneal spur) were randomly selected at the physiotherapy services at the Baixada Fluminense region, Province of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Patients underwent ten phonophoresis sessions using therapeutic ultrasound associated with Copaifera officinalis oil in the affected calcaneal region. The use of phonophoresis associated with Copaifera officinalis oil promoted pain relief in 70% of the studied patients.
