Abstract

COMPARATIVE EFFECT OF AYURVEDIC FORMULATION AND NITYA VIRECHANA WITH LOSARTAN (ARB) IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION

ABSTRACT

The aim of present study was to compare effect of Ayurvedic formulation (TF-1) and Nitya Virechana as Haritaki churna with Losartan (ARB) in management of essential hypertension. It was randomized, open label interventional study carried out at Arogyashala OPD and IPD, National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur and OPD of Department of Cardiology S.M.S. Hospital & Medical College, Jaipur. The study was conducted in 20 clinically diagnosed patients of Stage-1 Essential Hypertension (EHT) with an objective to assess the effect of Ayurvedic formulation TF-1 and Nitya Virechana by Haritaki churna in the management of Essential Hypertension on various scientific parameters. And to study comparative effect of trial drug TF-1 and nitya virechana with control arm Losartan. New formulation TF-1 containing Shankhapushpi (Convolvulas pluricaulis Chois.), Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna Roxb.), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera Linn.), Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa Linn.), Jatamansi (Nordostachys jatamansi DC.) has been formulated to assess its efficacy. Both drugs showed highly significant result in the systolic as well as diastolic blood pressure and significant improvement in subjective parameters.
