ABSTRACT

Chronopharmacology has the characteristic of improving the efficacy of the drug and reducing its toxicological effect. Biomaterials developed for the purpose of chronoliberation are promising for drugs and molecules delivery according to circadian cycle. Several studies have shown that microemulsion is an auspicious system for controlled drug release, as it has micellar characteristics and amphiphilic appearance, favoring the pharmacological distribution. They are homogeneous dispersions, which are translucent and thermodynamically stable, of oil and water and are stabilized by an interfacial film composed of conjugated surfactant and co-surfactant and occur as droplets on the order of 100 nm in diameter. The use of microemulsions can be a viable alternative for modifying the release of caffeine improving the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects of drugs. Caffeine is a chemical compost that stimulates the nervous and cardiovascular system and is directly influenced by circadian rhythm. This review we hypothesized that the chronopharmacological action of biomaterials on caffeine release improves the efficacy and safety of the caffeine, decreasing its toxicity effects, with release regulate according to circadian rhythm.
