Dr. Abhishek Rana*, Dr. Sagrika Jaggi, Dr. Pratibha and Dr. Ashvini Kumar

ABSTRACT

The word Ayurveda consists of two words, Ayu meaning “life” and Veda meaning “knowledge” or “science”. Agni is the basic element in the maintenance of health and its derangement leads to Vyadhi. The Agni can be maintained by use of proper Ahara and Vihara. Ayurveda prescribes specific diet and activity patterns in the healthy and diseased conditions which are known as Pathya. The “Pathya” is the Ahara and Vihara which is suitable to body and mind. The present era is full of stress and competition, most of people has given up the habits of consuming Pathya (both Aharaj and Viharaj). Recent advancements of science has materialized the world, fast food and sedentary lifestyle has invaded our culture making people more prone to lifestyle disorders. The present work on Pathya will be elaborately highlighting importance and utility of Aharaj and Viharaj guidelines mentioned in classics for both Swastha and Aatura persons. Ayurveda is best known for its ancient, holistic, non harmful management of diseases and which is not possible until and unless proper Pathya is followed.
