ABSTRACT
The excretary function of the liver and evidence of hepatocellular damage were assessed by measuring the amount of bilirubin excreted and ALT/AST ratio after exposure of diabetic rabbits to insecticide treated nets(ITN) for fourteen(14) days. The amount of bilirubin excreted within the period increased as the study progressed and averaged 0.04mg/ml within the 14days it lasted. This was an evidence of haemolysis. The ALT/AST ratio also increased from a value of 0.04mg/dl on day 1 to 0.21 mg/ml on day 14 with adverse effect of the protracted use of the ITN on the rabbits. These results in adition enabled one to speculation damage to the respiratory organs through which the active principle in the net was introduced into circulation and possible allergic reactions to the agents example bronchitis and asthma if the users were humans.
