Abstract

EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF ANTIANXIETY ACTIVITY OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF ADHATODA VASICA LEAVES

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Anxiety it is a psychological state, disagreeable in nature, associated with confusion, uncomfortable and worry or fear about some defined or undefined future thread. Some stages of anxiety is a part of normal life. Treatment is needed when it disproportionate to the situation and excessive. Adhatoda Vasica is also recognized as justicia adhatoda, frequently known in english as malabar nut, adusa, adhatoda vasa or vasaca, is a healing plant native to asia, generally used in siddha medicine, ayurvedichomeopathy and unani strucures of medicine. A number of active compound including phytochemicals such as alkaloids, tannis, saponins, phenolics and flavonoids. vasicine. A quinazoline alkaloid have been identified in adhatoda vasica. Tested. by Light and Dark Test and Plus Maze Test in albino mice. Animals were divided into 4 groups, each group contain 6 animals and orally administered with Normal Saline, Standard Drug. Material & method: The antianxiety activity of ethanolic extract of Adhatoda vasica leaf were Test 1 and Test 2 drug. Duration of immobility was observed for 6 minutes. Result: It has been observed from our study that both the dose showed significant (P<0.05) reduction in immobility in Light and Dark Test and Plus Maze Test model of anxiety. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract of leaves of Adhatoda Vasica has significant antidepressant activity in acute animal models for Anxiety.
