ABSTRACT
Today is the day of modernization and fast living. Everybody is busy and leading stressful life. Consumption of fast foods having high calories is also increasing. People have all facilities for comfortable living and are not having any kind of physical activity, consequent to sedentary life style the body fats along with cholesterol are increasing in our body, which invites disorders like Hypertension, Heart diseases and Hyperlipidemia. Mrigashringa bhasma is a drug which is indicated in hritshoola as explained by Rasatarangini Since hyperlipidemia is one of the major cause of angina and other cardiac complaints. Hence the experimental study of mrigashringa bhasma is taken to study its
efficacy in hyperlipidemia to evaluate its antlipidaemic action in rats. In this study Mrigashringa bhasma has showed 6% reduction in body weight. It has also showed significant reduction in weight of adipose tissue compare to HFD control which was 10% decrease (p<0.001). Mrigashringa bhasma has reduced Serum Total cholesterol by 24%, Serum Triglycerides by 13% and Serum LDL cholesterol by 17 % which is statistically significant (p<0.001) compared to HFD control rats. Mrigshringa bhasma has increased the level of Serum HDL cholesterol by 17% which was far better than even Orlistat, a standard Anti-obesity drug. As compared to the Orlistat Mrigashringa bhasma has shown similar results in some of the important parameters of hyperlipidaemia whereas modern drug Orlistat is associated with number of adverse effects. Hence Mrigashringa bhasma is natural, cheap and safe drug can be adopted for the treatment of hyperlipidaemia.
