ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to formulate and evaluation of gastroretentive tablet of anti emetic drug, ondansetron hydrocloride. a poorly water soluble drug. The solubility of ondansetron hydrocloride was enhanced by the solid dispersion (SD) with the help of the hydrophilic carriers such as poloxamer, providone and cyclodextrin. Poloxamer based solid dispersion was prepared by using a solvent evaporation technique. The solvent evaporation technique was showed the higher dissolution rate. i.e.(1:10 drug to carrier ratio) as compared to the other solid dispersions. The gastroretentive tablet were evaluated for the all physicochemical characteristics including in vitro buoyancy, dissolution and release rate. All the tablets will found within phrmacopoeial limits. And all formulation will exhibited good floating behaviour. The optimized formulation were characterised using FTIR and DSC and no drug and excipient interaction was observed. In vitro buoyancy and dissolution studies was showed the non effervescent system provide a promising method to achive prolong gastric retension time and improved bioavailability of ondansetron hydrocloride.

Keywords: Ondansetron hydrocloride, solid dispersion, non-effervescent, Gastroretentive tablet.
