PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF OSMOTIC PUMP TABLETS OF STAVUDINE

ABSTRACT

Controlled porosity osmotic pump tablets of Stavudine were prepared and a final formula is optimized after formulating 8 formulations. osmogent ratio and coating percentage are varied and evaluated based on their effects on drug release rate. Tablets of all formulations are prepared by Direct compression method. The formulated tablets were evaluated for FTIR, pre-compression parameters, post compression parameters, in vitro drug release study. As the osmogent concentration and pore former increases, drug release increases in the present work, fomulations are prepared and F3 formulation is optimized. Short term stability study at 40±2ºC /75±5% RH for the months on the F3 formulation indicated that there was no significant change weight variation, % friability, drug content and in vitro drug release.
