ABSTRACT

Rasashastra, the pharmaceutical science of Ayurveda, deals with the study of metals and minerals. The dosage form prepared of metals and minerals is termed as 'bhasma'. For preparing bhasma, arrangement of cow dung cakes in a required size of pit is done for giving heat, which is termed as Puta. The size and the number of cow dung cakes required differs as per the metal or mineral whose bhasma is to be prepared. Bhasma of various metals and minerals are frequently used in the treatment of many diseases as well as these are used as an important ingredient of various Rasakalpa. Present study is aimed to put forth the importance of Puta.
