Abstract

A CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF TRIPHALA ARKA AASCHOTANA WITH REFERENCE TO DRY EYE SYNDROME (NETRASHUSHKATA)

ABSTRACT

Netrashushkata (Dry Eye Syndrome) means a disease or group of symptoms caused by vata-pittadosha vitiation in eyes like Nisneha (oil deficiency) shuskam (Dryness), Anadram (loss of aqueous, dried things) etc. The vitiated doshas came to the eyes by means of netranadi making pathogenesis in netrasandhi (canthus), shuklamandal (sclera), krishnamandal (cornea and iris) and spreads all over the eye causing various eye problems. Netrashushkata can be compared with Dry Eye Syndrome having clinical features soreness, scratchiness, burning sensation, tearing difficulty in opening eyes on awakening, mucous discharge, foreign body sensation dryness is scratchiness, gritty or sandy. Ayurveda contributes very effective treatement for Dryness is snehan karma and Tarpan, Aschotana, Putapak, Dhum, Nasya etc. Aaschotana is an Adya (first line of treatment) in various Netraroga. Triphala is a chakshushya drug so Triphala Arka Aschotana was used for study. Study was carried out in 60 patients and devided into 2 groups. Group A - control group which is treated by Moisol Eye Drops and Group-B (Trial group) which was treated by Triphala Arka Aaschotana. A significant relief was found in various signs and symptoms of Netrashushkata (DRY EYE SYNDROME).
