Abstract

ROLE OF NAIMITTIKA RASAYANA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF KATISHULA

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda has a focused branch of medicine- Rasayana (Rejuvenation) which exclusively deals with the problems related to ageing and can be advised to both diseased and healthy individual in order to strengthen one‘s body as well as mind. Naimittika Rasayana is a type of Rasayana which is given for the diseased individuals. A clear description of Katigraha is explained by the Shodhala in the Vataroga Adhikara. Low back pain (LBP) is an extremely common problem that most people experience at some point in their life and -is a leading cause of disability. It is an important clinical, social, economic, and public health problem affecting in similar proportions in all cultures, interferes with quality of life and work performance, also the most common reason for medical consultations. Each medication has its own side effects. In this regard, ancient Acharyas of Ayurveda have given consideration to ‘Naimittika Rasayana’. Understanding the role of different medical systems in the management of katishula is important for the cost-effective management of the disease. Here in this article, the role of rasayana in its treatment aspects are discussed critically using Ayurvedic and modern literatures.
