ABSTRACT
Leflunomide is an isoxalzone immuno modulatory agent which belongs to DMARD (Disease Modifying Antirheumatic Drug) class of drug. It is an inhibitor of pyrimidine synthesis and has antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory action. This research is designed to provide constant pain relief gives better therapeutic action of the drug RA. Preformulation studies such as identification (white powder), melting point (163-165C), solubility, partition coefficient (2.4) calibration curve for Leflunomide are done. Hydrogel containing Leflunomide is prepared in different batches (F1-F6) by Carbopol, sodium benzoate, Leflunomide, propylene glycol, triethanole amine. The formulation
were evaluated by pH(5.0-6.5), viscosity (22600+-0.3), drug content (94.33+-0.3) and drug release(8), it is thus concluded that F5 formulation provided satisfactory results. The results obtained may be considered as tools for assistance to the regulatory authority’s scientific organization and manufacturer for developing standard formulation and great efficacy.
