ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to develop simple, precise, authentic and cost effective analytical method for the simultaneous estimation of Intra bowel disorder drugs in bulk and formulations in accordance to ICH guidelines. For routine analytical purpose, it is always necessary to establish method capable of analyzing huge number of sample in short time period with high accuracy and precision. Literature surveys shows that few analytical methods have been reported for the estimation of IBD class of drugs. Analytical method development includes selection of desired wavelength, solubility, linearity of various concentrations of standard drugs and formulations. Simultaneous equation method was developed for the simultaneous estimation of Mesalamine and Prednisolone using 0.1N NaOH as solvent. The absorption maximum for Mesalamine and prednisolone were found to be 330 nm and 247 nm respectively. Linear correlation was obtained in the range of 5-25 μg/ml (MSL) and 2-10 μg/ml (PRD), Correlation coefficients of Mesalamine was found to be 0.9988 and for prednisolone it is 0.9979. Validation of the method was performed as per ICH guidelines.

Keywords: Mesalamine; Prednisolone; Vierodt’s method; Method validation; Correlation coefficients; 0.1N NaOH; Absorption maxima.
