ABSTRACT

Minocycline Hcl an antiulcer drug has poor bioavailability and has low elimination half-life which makes it an ideal candidate for gastro retentive floating drug delivery system. The Floating tablets of minocycline were prepared to increase the gastric retention and to improve the bioavailability of the drug .The floating tablets were formulated using HPMC K15M, Ethyl Cellulose, Eudragit E100 as polymers. Lauric acid, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium stearate, talc and MCC are used as excipients. The tablets were prepared by wet granulation method. The formulated tablets were evaluated for the quality control tests: weight variation, hardness, friability, swelling index, floating lag time and total floating time, The in vitro drug release of the tablets was evaluated in 0.1NHCL. The drug release from the optimized formulation F9 subjected to curve filling analysis showed to best fit zero order kinetics indicating drug release does not depend on its concentration and the „n‟ value in korsmeyer-peppas model is > 0.5 and followed non-fickian diffusion mechanism.

Keywords: Minocycline Hcl, Antiulcer drug, HPMC K15M, Micro Crystalline Cellulose, Ethyl Cellulose, Eudragit E100.
