Abstract

TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF AGNIKARMA BY PANCHADHATU SHALAKA IN MANAGEMENT OF CALCANEAL SPUR: CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Calcaneal is a heel bone. today in modern life the calcaneal spur is the commonest cause of heel pain. The calcaneal spur is also called as heel spur. In Ayurveda calcaneal spur is termed correlated to asthisnayugata vata or vatkantaka. In Ayurveda pain is due to prakupit vata dosha. Calcaneal spur is caused due to constant pressure on heel, calcium deposition occurs beneath this bone and if the pressure continues the deposition takes the shape of spur. Sometimes calcaneal spur is associated with planter fasciitis. Pain in the heel and surrounding region is commonest symptoms of calcaneal spur. Increase the heel pain on standing for long time, running and walking. Till date symptomatic treatment are available like analgesics drugs & NSAID, steroid injection, ortotics and exercise. The surgical treatment like excision of calcaneal spur and release the planter fascia, but due to this treatment the complications are occurs like, not relief from pain and nerve damage. In Ayurveda Acharya sushruta has advised the agnikarma for ashti and snayugat vyadhi(disorders). Hence in this study patient of calcaneal spur was treated with agnikarma. Agnikarma therapy provided considerable relief from pain.
