GC/MS ANALYSIS OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF NARAGAMIA ALATA W&A

ABSTRACT
Naragamia alata W&A belongs to the family Meliaceae is a small
handsome underground woody shrub up to 30cm in height. The
whole part of Naragamia alata is medicinally important. It is used in
the treatment of vitiated conditions of pitta, vatha, migraine, cough,
asthma, bronchitis, spleno-megaly, pruritus, dyspepsia, anemaea and
chronic fevers. The essential oil was extracted by Clevenger apparatus
was used for GC/ MS analysis. 20 compounds were detected which
belong to three classes, monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids and
diterpenoids, of which the sesquiterpenoids form the major class.
