Abstract

A CASE STUDY: ROLE OF PANCHAMRIT PARPATI IN GRAHANI(IBS)

ABSTRACT

Grahani Roga is a disease of great clinical relevance in the modern era because of its direct link with the improper food habits and stressful lifestyle of the present times. According to modern science this disease can be understood under the context of Irritable bowel Syndrome (IBS) characterized by abdominal pain and altered bowel habits with no particular structural pathology of the gastrointestinal tract. IBS is a common health problem affecting a substantial proportion of the population; point prevalence estimates usually range from 12-30%[1]. Mandagni is mainly responsible for causing Grahani Roga.[2] Hence restoration of Agni is the principle concern in the management of Grahani Roga. Pancharita Parapti; having Dipana (stimulation of agni), Pacana (digestant), Grahi (checks the peristaltic movements), Laghu (decreases Ama therefore produces lightness in the body), Aruchi-Nasaka, Antiemetic, Antidiarrhoeal properties[3]; which plays a key role in the management of Grahani Roga. Here in present case, a 30-year old male patient who came with complaint of Muhurbaddam-Muhurdravam, Apakva Malapravruti, Udara Shool, Udara Gourava, Aruchi, was treated with Panchamrit Parpati; and at the end of 45 days of treatment, patient got significant improvement in symptom.
