Abstract

AMRITADI KWATH GHAN VATI IN VATASHTHEELA- A CRITICAL REVIEW

*Dr. Megha Yadav, Dr. Ajay Kumar Gupta

ABSTRACT

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common age-related condition in elderly males, frequently presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms and bladder outlet obstruction. In Ayurveda, its clinical presentation can be correlated with Vatashtheela, predominantly involving Apana Vata with Kapha resulting in Agnimandya, Ama formation and Srotorodha. The present review aims to critically evaluate the Ayurvedic properties and therapeutic potential of Amritadi Kwath Ghan Vati in the management of Vatashtheela (BPH). Relevant information is being collected from classical Ayurvedic texts, allopathic medical literature and published articles. Amritadi Kwath Ghan Vati comprises five drugs i.e Amalaki, Shunthi, Guduchi, Gokshura and Ashwagandha which are reviewed for their Ayurvedic properties and pharmacological actions. The formulation is expected to exhibit a multidimensional therapeutic profile through Vata-Kapha Shamaka, Deepana, Pachana, Mootrala, Shothahara and Rasayana actions. Shunthi supports Agni and Ama Pachana, Gokshura promotes urinary function, Guduchi and Amalaki provide Rasayana, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, while Ashwagandha contributes Balya, Vatahara and Rasayana actions. Collectively these properties may support normal Mootravaha Srotas function and alleviate urinary symptoms associated with BPH. Thus, Amritadi Kwath Ghan Vati can possess holistic therapeutic potential in Vatashtheela (BPH) and further clinical evaluation to establish its efficacy and safety leading to improvement in quality of life of patients of BPH.
