FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF THYMOLE BASE MEDICATED NAIL LAQCUER
Prof. Meghana Gore, Pratiksha Jadhav*, Kaustubh Kadam, Preeti Kale,
ABSTRACT Transungual drug delivery offers localized treatment for nail infections such as onychomycosis, but drug penetration through the nail plate is limited. To overcome this, a medicated nail lacquer containing Thymol was formulated using nitrocellulose as a film-forming polymer, dibutyl phthalate as a plasticizer, and thioglycolic acid as a permeation enhancer. The formulation showed good film properties, improved drug diffusion, and significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Hence, Thymol-based nail lacquer is a promising and effective approach for localized management of fungal nail infections with reduced systemic side effects.
