A NUTRACEUTICAL REVIEW ON BANANA PEELS WITH THERAPEUTIC BENEFITS

ABSTRACT Banana peels an overthrown agricultural outgrowth now worth of scientific attention because of their high phytochemical action. In this review, the nutritional, medicinal and artificial operation of banana peel are bandied. Its bioactive factors dopamine, and flavonoids tannins, and carotenoids that impart to this plant its antioxidants, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory activities. Another study used banana peel for low-cost adsorbent in environmental cleansing, a medicinal product and bioactive component in food and cosmetics, a precursor of bioplastic and bio-textile. However, it is not widely applied in practice on large scale. This review reflects the necessity of in vivo and clinical studies to confirm its pharmacological efficacy and to provide a standard formulation for clinical use.
