AN OVERVIEW OF PHYTOSOMES AS AN ADVANCE HERBAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM
Alisha Altaf Sayyed*, Prajakta Shinde, Arshad Shaikh
ABSTRACT Phytosomes, a novel herbal drug delivery system, enhance the bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy of plant-based bioactive compounds. By forming lipid-compatible complexes with phospholipids, phytosomes improve the absorption of water-soluble phytochemicals such as flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids, and phenolics. This approach addresses challenges associated with conventional herbal formulations, including poor solubility, low bioavailability, and rapid degradation in the gastrointestinal tract. Phytosomes offer various advantages, including enhanced stability, targeted drug delivery, and improved skin penetration. Furthermore, the integration of nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems has further optimized the efficacy and controlled release ofphytomedicines. This review explores the chemical properties, preparation methods, characterization techniques, and various applications of phytosomes in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, demonstrating their potential to revolutionize modern herbal medicine. Keywords: phospholipids, phytosomes, pharmaceutical, Literature Analysis. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
